Hello, and welcome to Burrell High School!
My name is John Boylan, and it is both an honor and a privilege to begin my 21st year as the
principal of Burrell High School. Throughout the past two decades, I have had the opportunity to
witness the remarkable growth, resilience, and accomplishments of our students, staff, and
school community. Each year brings new opportunities, and we are excited about the journey
that lies ahead.
At Burrell High School, we believe that education extends far beyond academics. While high
levels of learning remain at the center of everything we do, we are equally committed to
educating the whole child by fostering character, leadership, collaboration, creativity, resilience,
and a lifelong passion for learning. Our goal is for every Burrell Buc to leave our school
prepared not only for graduation, but for a successful and meaningful future.
This school year marks an exciting chapter for our school as we continue with several significant
changes designed to better prepare our students for life beyond high school. We are proud to be
transitioning to an A/B Block Schedule, providing students with expanded opportunities for
deeper learning, meaningful engagement, and authentic instructional experiences. We are also
developing our Portrait of a Learner, which will define the knowledge, skills, and dispositions we
believe every Burrell graduate should possess. In addition, we are intentionally integrating
Pennsylvania's Career Education and Work (CEW) Standards throughout our curriculum to
ensure that every student develops the career readiness, employability skills, and real-world
experiences necessary to thrive in an ever-changing world.
These initiatives represent more than programmatic changes—they reflect our unwavering
commitment to continuous improvement and to providing every student with an exceptional
educational experience. While meaningful change always brings challenges, our faculty, staff,
students, and community embrace those challenges with enthusiasm, optimism, and a shared
belief that the best is yet to come.
Education is most successful when it is built on strong partnerships. We are grateful for the
continued support of our parents, families, alumni, and community members who play such an
important role in the success of our students. Together, we will continue to inspire, support, and
empower every Burrell Buc to reach their fullest potential.
